I chose a particularly boyish look to go with today's blog post because I wanna talk about gender fluidity. Gender fluidity is a hot topic these days which also means a lot of people are being introduced to the term for the first time EVER. I understand that to some, gender identity can be a very touchy and personal matter. That being said, I think it's so important to talk about it in a non-aggressive and non-defensive way. I don't think it helps the cause to be infuriated by insensitive questions at all. We need to help others understand no matter how insensitive they sound and you don't do that by screaming at someone.

Gender fluidity isn't a fixed identity meaning that it refers to people who doesn't identify with one 'locked' gender. Some people may identify as agender (i.e. having no gender), bigender (i.e. both woman and man) or non-binary (i.e. neither woman nor man). Non-binary means not committing to one or another. There is a large range of non-binary gender identities such as gender fluid, genderqueer, gender neutral, third gendered etc. The list of gender identities goes on, but these are the gender identities most commonly referred to. For me, it means that I don't want to settle for one gender and the expectations and rules that come with it. I want it all or nothing at all.

Gender fluidity is currently in the public eye and that does impact the way people dress, but it's important to know that gender fluidity isn't a trend. Gender fluid people are coming forward now and living as their true selves, because of all the debates concerning gender equality and LGBTQ+ issues. Gender fluidity is a lived experience, not something you can dress as which is why the LGBTQ+ community went nuts when Vogue referred to a cisgender couple as champions of 'a generation that embraces gender fluidity' to make a fashion statement.

I hope this blog post answered a few question for anyone who might have been confused by the term 'gender fluidity'.
